The "Sanaa ripper", a Sudanese morgue attendant, pleaded guilty to the rape and murder of 16 young women, at the start of his trial in the Yemeni capital on Saturday.
"I acknowledge these facts," said Mohammad Adam Omar Ishaak after he was accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering 16 women, eight of them students at Sanaa University faculty of medicine.
The 52-year-old said he strangled his victims during the rapes and chopped up the bodies to conceal them.
Ringed by seven policemen, Mohammad Adam appeared calm and confident throughout the initial hearing, which was also attended by family members of victims.
The criminal court adjourned the case until Monday - SANAA (AFP)
