Being part of our lives for long, Hello Kitty is one of the most unique and interesting characters ever created. Late last year, Hello Kitty turned 35 and in line with continuing the celebrations to mark this occasion, Ms. Yuko Yamaguchi - the world-renowned designer of Hello Kitty, will be in Dubai to meet her fans over a two day road show. Ms Yuko Yamaguchi has been on an international tour visiting Tokyo, Los Angeles, Milan, London, Paris, Barcelona, Stockholm and Dubai features next amongst the list.
Hello Kitty was designed and created by Sanrio. Apart from Hello Kitty which is one of the most popular properties from the company, there are over 400 characters that have been introduced over the years.
It is indeed a one in a lifetime opportunity for Hello Kitty fans in Dubai. Being the designer of Hello Kitty for 30 years now, this is the first ever visit of Ms. Yuko Yamaguchi to the region. During the road show, the designer will be signing specially created boards with a personalized message for her fans. The signing ceremonies will be held at the Sanrio store in Times Square Mall on Thursday, January 28th between 6 pm and 7 pm and at The Dubai Mall on Friday, January 29th between 5pm and 6 pm.
In his comments, Roberto Lanzi, President, Sanrio Global Consumer Products, said: “This is a great occasion for us and we want to make it even greater for all the Hello Kitty fans in the UAE. This is why we decided to bring Ms. Yuko Yamaguchi to visit Dubai and make her meet her admirers. Dubai is one leg of our international road show and we believe it will not only be an experience for all Hello Kitty lovers but something unique for us. No other city offers the diversity of population and fans that Dubai does. We are very eager to be out there and feel the excitement.”
Commenting on her visit, Ms. Yuko Yamaguchi said: “This is my first visit to Dubai and I am told that I will be surprised and wowed when we get out there. Hello Kitty has a lot of fans here and surprisingly it’s not only the expatriate population, but a large percentage of Emiratis love the brand as well. I would like to take this opportunity to meet and interact with them.”
Further she added, “Hello Kitty’s design is simple yet powerful. Because she does not have a visible mouth, this allows her fans to project and share their feelings with her. She is a symbol of friendship – I want her to be a character that encourages people to become friends while creating a link between them around the world.”
Hello Kitty, portrayed as a little girl with a red bow and no mouth, was born on November 1, 1974, in London, England where she lives with her parents and her twin sister Mimmy. This little girl with the bow over her left ear is cheerful, warm-hearted and only weighs as much as three apples. She and her friends love to travel and share new adventures. Her hobbies include music, reading, eating yummy cookies and making new friends.
The road show is organized by Sanrio - the leading designer and distributor of licensed character-branded products and Sharaf Retail is the regional franchisee for Sanrio’s products.
