Saudi Arabia on Sunday declared it does not want to continue to participate in the Arab observer mission in Syria. Despite this, the Arab League has extended the use of observers. The kingdom withdrew its observers, because the Syrian government said "no" to the Arab plan to end the violence, said the Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal during a meeting of the Arab Foreign Ministers in Cairo.

The Arab observers were deployed Syria at the end of December. The mission has been criticized by the Syrian opposition, because the violence in that country escalated.

The first observer mission in Syria is now officially over. The opinions among the Arab countries over its efficiency were divided. According to reports from sources close to the Arab League discussion the mission of the monitors was extended by one month.

The number of observers will be increased and they will get training by the United Nations, the report said.
