Saudi Arabia's King Fahd accused Israel Monday of being the cause of the dangers threatening the Arab nations and called on the international community to put pressure on the Jewish state, reported Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
"Israel with its twists and turns and washing its hands (of its responsibilities) is the one and only cause of all the dangers that threaten our region," said King Fahd at the opening of a consultative council meeting in Jeddah.
It is the duty of Israel and those other countries that can put pressure on the Jewish state to put (the peace process) back on the rails and to stick by the efforts aimed at establishing an overall, fair and permanent peace in the Middle East, the king was quoted as saying.
The king's comments included a reaffirmation of his country's support for Syria's recovering "all its rights, particularly the withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan Heights."
In other comments to the council, King Fahd said he was confident about the stability of the oil market, which he described as good for producers and consumers, AFP said.
He also called on Saudi businessmen to contribute to the revitalizing of the Saudi economy, stressing the complementary nature of the private and public sectors to that effect, added AFP.
On human rights, he repeated the Saudi position that Islam remains the best guarantor of those rights, rejecting recent criticism of his country in that area, the agency said - Albawaba.com
