Warplanes operated by a Saudi-led coalition of Arab states targeted Houthi positions in two regions of the war-torn country of Yemen Wednesday, Reuters reported residents and tribal sources as saying, despite a weeklong truce that began Tuesday afternoon.

"Coalition planes launched an air strike on the positions of the Houthis and Saleh forces in the Najd area of Sirwah district after they repeatedly violated the ceasefire," a tribal source told Reuters by telephone.

An airstrike was reported by residents in Taiz after Houthi fighters launched rockets on the area, and Saudi state news agnecy SPA said one Saudi officer had been killed by Houthi forces near the border after the ceasefire began.
