The end of term does not mean a complete vacation for the Qatari Student Network, working closely with ASPIRE, the Academy for Sports Excellence.

From 8 July 2007 the summer program “SUMMERNA” begins, including activities in a wide range of sports, educational and academic fields.

First up is a football tournament entitled the His Highness Sheikh Joaan Bin Hamad Al-Thani Cup for Indoor Football. This unique event kicks off on 8 July and seeks to recruit teams of university students and from youth internet forums. The tournament uses ASPIRE’s purpose-built indoor football pitch and has been planned and organized by students from Qatari Student Network.

Elsewhere in the Academy, Qatari university students seeking to reap the benefits of an active lifestyle can join the B-Fit fitness program.

The benefits of health and exercise are well known, so the summer-long B-Fit program includes lots of physical activities, supported by educational work that will raise the Qatari students’ awareness about health and sports, contributing directly to a healthy younger generation.

ASPIRE has delivered an effective contribution by offering its logistical support to both programs. The Academy has supplied the sporting venues and necessary facilities, equipped according to the highest international standards. Students at work in the Academy will enjoy instruction from a wide range of the expert international fitness coaches.

The B-Fit program will be held at ASPIRE under the watchful eye of ASPIRE ACTIVE coaches. The program will include fitness exercises, swimming, and lectures about nutrition and the importance of exercise. The fitness level of the participants will be monitored to check the improvement level.

Mr. Mohammad Al-Delaimi, Summer Program Coordinator said: “Providing this great exercise program all summer long is a great opportunity to consolidate health and fitness in the region. It provides the bedrock for these Qatari students to enjoy a healthy active life in the future.”

Mrs. Gisela Hackfort, ASPIRE ACTIVE program head, said: “Students are the future generation of Qatar. Since ASPIRE is an academic institution with the vision to generate a stronger sports culture in Qatar, these two entities should be brought together through ASPIRE ACTIVE because our  exercise programs are developed to reach the community and to contribute to a healthy Qatari culture.”

SUMMERNA, comprising B-Fit and the Indoor Football Tournament, concludes on 15 August 2007.
