Israel's health ministry identified seven more cases of the West Nile virus on Wednesday, reported Haaretz newspaper.

So far, some 21 people, mostly elderly, have been infected, said the paper, adding that two of them have died in the past three days.

Israel Wire news agency reported on Tuesday that the ministry killed 2000 ducks for fear they were carrying the virus.

Dozens of viral meningitis cases, some of which are caused by the West Nile Virus, are diagnosed in Israel each year, according to the paper.

The virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and usually causes a slight fever and a rash. The only way to impede the virus is by increasing pest control, said the paper - Albawaba.com
