A booby-trapped car exploded early Tuesday near a Shiite mosque in the Sunni-majority southeast Iranian town of Zahedan, wounding several people, Iranian television reported.

Part of the Ali Ebn Abu Taleb mosque and nearby houses were seriously damaged, the report said. Between four and eight people were injured.

Local security officials announced an in-depth inquiry and hit out at "those who tried to sow discord in the unity of the Shiite and Sunni peoples." – TEHRAN (AFP)
