Several parts of Sharjah, including King Faisal Road, Al Qasimia, Al Majaz and Al Buhairah, experienced power outages for five hours following a fault in a transformer on Wednesday.
Gulf News reports that there was no power between 11.30am and 4.30pm. According to the Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority "We restored power to the affected areas gradually. Supply resumed in all areas around 4.30 pm."
Sharjah Civil Defence sources claimed they did not receive any complaints regarding fires or people stuck in elevators. Fortunately, Sharjah Police said that no traffic accidents were reported. Even though there was a minor collision in the afternoon, it was far away from the traffic light intersection.
Teams of policemen hurried to intersections in affected areas to assist traffic flow and prevent accidents, according to the police.
Later that day, police reported that two people were lightly injured in a car accident. It was not clear whether the accident occurred due to the power failure. (Albawaba.com)
