Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) is showcasing the rich cultural legacy of the emirate of Sharjah with a special focus on its vivid tapestry of museums at the World Travel Market 2010, London, held from 8 - 11 November 2010.
Hosted annually in London, World Travel Market - the premier global event for the travel industry - is a vibrant travel showcase presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to UK and International travel professionals.
"SMD's participation in World Travel Market follows the government of Sharjah's goal to promote its unique art and culture offerings to its residents and visitors. Under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, Sharjah has preserved its rich heritage, developed 19 museums over the past 2 decades and continued to be the center of the contemporary art scene in the region with the long term success of the Sharjah Biennial," said Manal Ataya, Director General of SMD.
She added: "This focus on culture has led to Sharjah recording robust growth in tourism, particularly visitors looking for an experience which is family oriented, authentic and enhances their learning. The museums in the Emirate are today "must-see" destinations in every tourist's itinerary."
In cooperation with other government departments, Sharjah Museums Department is participating in the World Travel Market 2010 under the umbrella of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority.
World Travel Market 2010 offers a unique opportunity for the global travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business under one roof. By attending World Travel Market, participants gain immediate competitive advantage for their business and stay in tune with the latest developments in the travel industry.
In keeping with its commitment to drive further the footfall of tourists to visit the Emirate and promote its museums, Sharjah Museums Department is collaborating with Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority and Air Arabia in a winter campaign 2010 – 2011. The campaign will offer exciting travel promotions and packages to tourists in the GCC and around the world.
The Sharjah Museums Department was established in 2006 by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi as an independent government department that aims to deliver the highest quality of museums for the people of Sharjah and all its visitors, through its facilities, exhibitions, and programmes of learning, research and community outreach.
