Sharjah Tatweer Forum (Tatweer), an initiative formed under a decree issued by H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council, held a meeting today (Thursday, April 19, 2007), for the members of its Private Public Partnership (PPP) Programme at the Millennium Hotel, Sharjah. The purpose of the meeting was to create a platform where representatives from the private and public sector could come together and identify high level initiatives aimed at promoting the economic, social, investment and cultural sectors of Sharjah.

During the meeting, groups of participants from the private and public sectors presented their projects and action plans. The groups were divided based on sectors – economic, social, cultural, investment - and the group leaders presented their findings and suggestions to improve competitiveness of their respective sectors from the perspective of private public partnership.

“We are pleased with the outcome of this Private Public Partnership meeting, especially since several high quality and viable suggestions were put forward by the participants, that could go a long way in ensuring the all-round development of the emirate of Sharjah,” said Mohammad Abdullah Bou Khater, Acting Chairman of Sharjah Tatweer Forum. “The meeting also gave an opportunity for participants to evaluate the original goals of the PPP programme and assess the returns gained over the past five months, since the launch of PPP.”

“The close cooperation between the private and public sector can bring a lot of positive results with regard to the advancement and sustained progress of Sharjah. The Tatweer Forum will try to ensure continued networking between the groups present at the meeting and also encourage participants to take up joint projects with various sectors,” he added.

The PPP programme was launched by Tatweer Forum in 2006 to foster Private Public Partnership and encourage the private sector to play a greater role in the economic and social activities in Sharjah as well as in building human capital. The programme also promotes closer working relationships and sharing of best practices between organisations from both public and private sectors.

Through the PPP programme, Tatweer is keen on promoting what Sharjah has to offer in terms of commerce, industry, tourism, culture and education; establish better communication channels between public and private organisations and create an attractive working environment to attract regional and international investors.
