ALBAWABA- Six suspected Islamic State (ISIS) militants and three Turkish police officers were killed during a raid in Yalova province, northwest Turkey, on December 29, 2025, the Interior Ministry confirmed.
The operation targeted a residence believed to harbor ISIS operatives planning attacks. When police moved to apprehend the suspects, the militants opened fire, triggering a prolonged shootout.
Security forces, including special operations units, returned fire. All six suspects were killed, while three officers died from gunshot wounds. Several others were wounded but are reported in stable condition.
The ministry said the suspects were foreign nationals linked to ISIS networks. The raid was part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts, following intelligence about potential holiday-period plots. Nationwide operations since December 25 have led to the detention of more than 100 suspects.
Officials described the clash as one of the deadliest involving ISIS suspects in Turkey in recent years.
The incident highlights the continued vigilance against the group, which has carried out multiple attacks in Turkey since 2015. The operation comes amid heightened regional tensions following the collapse of the Assad regime in Syria, raising concerns over a potential resurgence of ISIS cells.
