The Society for Care of Neurological Patients Launches the 16th LG Dead Sea Ultramarathon

The Society for Care of Neurological Patients (SCNP) recently announced the launch of the 16th LG Dead Sea Ultramarathon (LG DSUM) in Jordan, scheduled on April 10th, under the patronage of HRH Prince Raad Bin Zeid, the Chief Chamberlain.

SCNP’s announcement came in a press meeting held at Grand Hyatt Amman Hotel on Monday, 16 March 2009, and featured the participation of LG Levant AC General Manager, Mr. Johnny Jeong, on behalf of LG Levant General Manager Mr. Kevin Cha. Attending the conference was Vice President of SCNP Mr. Ghazi Farouq, along with representatives of the official sponsors of the LG DSUM, and the media.

The LG DSUM, the main fund-raising event for the SCNP, raises awareness towards the Society's existence, provides neurological patients with medical aid, and helps cover the costs of necessary surgeries. It also aims to increase awareness towards the benefits of running, by gathering people of different age groups, from all around the globe, to join in this unique event to run to the lowest point on earth.

Mr. Ghazi Farouq, welcomed the gathering, saying “We are so glad to announce, once gain, the launch of the 16th LG Dead Sea Ultramarathon, for being a significant global event that recognizes SCNP, its activities, and noble objectives which tirelessly contribute to the healthcare of its patients. And this is noticeably manifested in utilizing the DSUM’s proceeds to help those in need. I would like, here, to express our gratitude for LG Electronics and all the official sponsors for their endless support for this regional and global undertaking.”

 

On his part, Mr. Kevin Cha said, “We, at LG, are proud to provide the complete and infinite support for this year’s event, since we are fully convinced of its good and humane intentions in supporting the neurological patients, both morally and financially. We are fully committed to set this event annually, not only for its health orientation, but also for its sports and touristic features.”

The LG DSUM consists of five runs, the Ultramarathon (48.7 km), the marathon (42 km), the half-marathon (21 km), the Fun Run (10 km), and Junior Marathon (4.2 km).

The event is held annually on the first or second Friday during the month of April, which a pre-set run map starting from Amman and ending in the Dead Sea. It gives the opportunity for people of all age groups to participate, even for children of 15 and under.
