One of Somalia's political factions said Tuesday that it had withdrawn the support it had given to President Abdulkassim Salat Hassan, saying some parts of the country were not represented at his election.
The leader of the Rahanwein Resistance Army (RRA) said the Djibouti-led reconciliation process, under which Salat was elected, did not take into account the wishes of the people in the breakaway northwestern region and a self-declared autonomous area in the northeast.
"The Djibouti process did not have the blessings of the northwest Somalia's breakaway region (Somaliland) and its neighbouring Puntland which make up more than half of Somalia," RRA chairman and military commander Hassan Mohamed Nur Shatigudud told AFP by telephone from the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa -- NAIROBI (AFP)
