Some 20 Iraqis, including a 13-year-old boy in the southern city of Basra, were killed Sunday.
The boy died after a bomb, which was placed in front of the school, went off at 7:30 a.m. as children were arriving for class in the center of Basra, police Capt. Mushtaq Kadim said.
Meanwhile, according to the AP, an aide to Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr reported that two mortar rounds landed within 50 yards of his home in the holy city of Najaf. Two guards were wounded, but it was not immediately clear if al-Sadr was in the house, Sheikh Sahib al-Amiri said.
In Baghdad, a bomb detonated in front of a house in the central neighborhood of Karradah, killing a woman and wounding three people, and a truck driver was shot dead in west Baghdad, police said.
Police also discovered 13 handcuffed and bullet-riddled bodies, victims of execution-style killings. Ten were dumped in south Baghdad's Dora neighborhood, another in the northern district of Hurriyah and two in the city of Baquoba, 35 miles northeast of Baghdad, police stated.
Security guards for the Iraqi finance minister were ambushed while driving in western Baghdad before they had picked up the minister. One guard died, and a bystander was injured, police said. Several gunmen killed a policeman and his cousin as they walked in an area 15 miles north of Baquoba, and a farmer was killed in the nearby town of Buhriz, police said.
