A number of Palestinian Legislative Council (parliament) members are considering the issue of resigning on Sunday, after Palestinian leader Abbas' announcement to postpone elections.
PLC First Deputy Chairman Dr. Hassan Kareesheh said in statements to the Palestinian radio, "eight council members, including myself, look into the issue of resignation."
He added, "This issue comes within the framework of consultations among council members in objection [to] Abbas' postponing [of] the elections."
President Abbas issued a presidential order Saturday postponing parliamentary elections indefinitely. Meanwhile, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, political bureau member of Hamas Movement, on Saturday renewed his Movement’s rejection of Abbas' move. Zahhar said that the decision ran contrary to the Cairo agreements and the understandings with Abbas, in addition to reneging on past way of dealing with such issues namely dialogue.
