Sorouh Real Estate PJSC ("Sorouh"), the Abu Dhabi-based real estate developer (ADX: SOROUH) confirms that at about 12h30 on Saturday 19 June there was a fire incident at alrayyana, its apartment development under construction adjacent to the Abu Dhabi Golf Course.

Due to Sorouh's strict observance of international safety standards and the implementation of the mandatory 'No Work Rule' from 12:00pm to 3:00pm, no employees of Sorouh, the contractor, Pivot, or the project management company, Turner, were affected by the incident.

The fire was detected at the top of one tower, which is under construction, during a mandatory routine safety inspection by the safety team and the alarm was raised immediately and the Civil Defense authorities alerted.

Senior personnel from Sorouh, Pivot and Turner were on site within 10 minutes of the alarm being raised.

The hot, dry and windy conditions caused the fire to spread to the top floors of another three buildings before it was contained and extinguished by Civil Defense firefighters with assistance provided by employees of Sorouh, Pivot and Turner who deployed 10 water tankers to supplement fire fighting vehicles used by the Civil Defense authorities.

As part of standard protocol, an investigation will now take place to determine the origin of the fire and the extent of the damage. The four affected buildings have been cordoned off for the inspection.

A Sorouh spokesperson said: "We can thank our safety standards and well-trained personnel for the lack of injuries and the containment of the fire."

Sorouh would like to thank the civil authorities for their rapid response and role in extinguishing the fire.
