Palestinian Navy have denied reports that Israeli troops had surrounded the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat’s residence in Gaza on the beach. The sources said that earlier reports were baseless, adding that the Israeli Navy was conducting routine patrols along the coast. The Palestinian Navy they added, had gone to the area which was now under their control.

In Ramallah, a security source also denied that Israeli troops had surrounded Arafat’s residence in the city, adding that serious confrontations are now taking place at the entrance of Beit-eil settlement, near Arafat’s residence in Ramallah.

MBC reported earlier that the Israeli Military had surrounded Arafat’s residence in Gaza, and were getting closer to his residence in Ramallah. The report added that intense meetings were taking place between Arafat and leaders of the Palestinian Security Forces. The report also said that the Palestinian special forces and force seventeen, who are the presidential guards, were stationed around the headquarters to protect the residence in case Israeli troops came any closer. The Palestinian authority, the report added, had issued a warning to Israeli troops not to move any closer to Arafat’s residence for fear that it will result in more bloodshed.
