A Spanish expedition from the Madrid University will renew archaeological excavations in Al Thaqiba, according to Gulf News.

The expedition is headed by Dr. Joaquin Cordoba and will be working in the Mudam valley, in the central region of the UAE.

In previous excavations, the Spanish excavators discovered an agricultural village that comprised some two-story houses. In the village, they revealed ancient objects including various clay pots, metal tools, cosmetic utensils and weapons dating back to the Iron Age, or the year 1000 BC.

The expedition will continue searching for small canals, named Aflaj, which the old inhabitants of this village depended on, for agriculture needs.

It will also study the walls of an ancient stone fort built on one of the Al Bahis Mountain tops, and study the Al Mudam valley. (Albawaba.com)
