Strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake hits offshore eastern Indonesia

ALBAWABA - A magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck Monday off eastern Indonesia, the US Geological Survey reported on Monday morning. 

The quake struck at 12:49 p.m. Western Indonesia time, and according to AFP, it didn't trigger a tsunami threat.

Furthermore, Indonesia's geophysics agency posted on social media that the earthquake "did not have the potential to cause a tsunami".

The quake epicentre was at a depth of 80 kilometres, and it struck about 177 kilometres west of the city of Tual in the eastern Maluku province.
