Dubai Women’s College (DWC) recently hosted the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) Poster Competition, an event which was organized to give students from all HCT colleges the opportunity to compete with each other and display their knowledge and creativity on important issues in the UAE like water conservation, alternative energy sources, recycling and climate change.
A panel of judges reviewed the entries by the 150 participants, who researched the subject of sustainable business and designed posters that represented the topic. Paul Cleaver, competition co-chair said, “These students have demonstrated that they understand the impact an individual’s or an organization’s actions can have on our environment. This is an important first step towards developing business leaders who employ sustainable and responsible decisions and don’t sacrifice the future for short-term gain. ”
Guest speaker Adrian Hayes, the Dubai based record-breaking adventurer and sustainability ambassador spoke about his many expeditions and on the subject of sustainability. “Sustainability is not just an environmental movement, it’s a fabric of a responsible way of life at all levels that recognizes and rewards a triple bottom line – People, Planet and Profit – and not just a single bottom line of profit alone. Get it right and everyone wins,” he said.
DWC Business faculty and competition co-organizer, Graham Spriggs was pleased with the outcome of the competition and commented that, “This type of an event is something the HCT does really well. It is about the students learning through activity,” he concluded.
DWC has been recognized as being at the pinnacle of higher education in UAE and partners with leading experts from around the world to encourage and develop the skills of young Emirati women to become world leaders.
