One Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier was killed and another wounded in a suicide attack in the Sangin district of southern Helmand province on Saturday, officials said, Pajhwok reports.

The attack took place at around 5am near the ANA base in the district, spokesman for the 215th Maiwand Military Corps Lt. Col. Mohammad Rasoul Zazai told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the soldiers shot dead four other fighters accompanying the suicide bomber.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi identified the attacker as Niaz Mohammad, who detonated his explosives-laden fuel tanker in front of the ANA centre, inflicting casualties on 30 soldiers.

The fighters also attacked two checkpoints last night, killing 15 Afghan security forces and injuring many others, Ahmadi said. But Zazai vehemently rejected the claim.
