Sura bint Ghazi Sponsors the Competition "Environment in the Children's Eyes"

On behalf of Her Royal Highness Princess Alia bint Al Hussein, the Princess (Al-Sharifa) Sura bint Ghazi patronized yesterday, Wednesday 14th Oct. 09, a celebration of the awards distribution to winners in the competition "Environment in the children's Eyes" organized by greater Amman Municipality (GAM).

The Environmental Awareness Department in the Directorate of Studies and Environment Planning, in cooperation with Zaha Cultural Center, launched this competition to activate students' role in servicing the environment and contributing to preserving it.

City Deputy Director for Public Services, Engineer Mustafa Lozi, on behalf of Mayor of Amman, Omar Al Maani, the Executive Manager of Environment and Cleaning, Eng. Zaidoun Al Nsour, the Head of Environmental Planning and Studies Eng. Hatem Ababneh, and the President of Zaha Cultural Center Rania Sbeih, all attended the celebration.

The competition required that every participant must shoot a picture on his own, depicting the environment from his point of view. The top three participants were Farah Samir Hamdan, Haitham Al Aidy and Zaid Khammash among 19 competitors.

To participate in this competition certain criteria, set up by a jury, to be met such as targeting children between 12-18 years old; the jury consisted of the photographers Zuhrab and wael Hijazeen and Mohammed Al Fayed, in addition to Fakhri Al Alami from Al-Farida & Al Kawn Co., one of the companies supporting the event, like Abdel Latif Al Bawab Co.

The supervisor of the competition, head of the Environmental Awareness Department in GAM, Eng. Omar Arabiat, said that this activity puts into action the purposes of GAM to preserve the environment by literary and artistic activities and programs, targeting children and students to educate them about methods of keeping environment and be familiarized with the proper modes of conduct that should reduce the risks of the environmental pollution.  

Jury member Zuhrab clarified that the standard of the participating works varied, just as in other competitions; the selection of the winning picture was based on the idea and the importance of the environmental issue reflected in the photo.

Zuhrab commended the initiative on the part of GAM, explaining that such activities highlight the environmental awareness, and at the same time, promote kids' cultural talents.
