Visiting Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharazi and his Syrian counterpart, Farouq Shara, called Tuesday on Arab countries to unify their positions during the upcoming Amman summit and support the Palestinian Intifada, said AFP.
The March 27-28 Arab summit in Amman "comes as peace negotiations failed and reached an impasse, and as Palestinians chose resistance and revolt", Kharazi said.
"The latest developments prove the need for a different approach in facing the situation, and we hope the Arab summit will adopt a unified and decisive stance supporting the Intifada", he added.
"We always consult our Iranian brothers on issues of common and regional interest, such as the Arab-Israeli conflict and the Palestinian cause", said Shara.
Kharazi flew in from Beirut, where he met with Lebanese President Emile Lahoud and Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri, said the Daily Star newspaper.
Following his meeting with Lahoud, Kharazi said that “Israel represents a great danger for the whole region and Lebanon is in the front line against the Israeli enemy, particularly in the current sensitive circumstances following the election of [Israeli Prime Minster Ariel] Sharon."
