The second anniversary of late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad’s “untimely demise” was marked throughout Syria's 14 Governorates.
The marking of this anniversary is in memory of the “builder of modern Syria, the man who did the best he could to change his country from a coup-plagued back- warded one into a modern one”, the official Syrian Arab News Agency SANA reported Saturday.
Arab and international figures continued Saturday to praise the political approach and wisdom of the late President.
"President Hafez Assad was able to lead Syria firmly and steadfastly in the face of challenges,'' Dr. Usama Al-Baz, Advisor of Egyptian President said. "President Hafez Assad accorded utmost importance to Arab joint action; he had an all-out strategic vision,'' Al-Baz conveyed.
Al-Baz lauded the wise policy of Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad, son of the late President, as consisting of, “continuity and renewal together”.
"The late President as an academy in directing and ruling, an exceptional man,'' said Lebanese Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister, Rafiq Hariri, meanwhile, said, “The late President waged for Palestine military wars and political battles. He was very keen on the unity, stability and integrity of Lebanon”.
Ahmad Talib Al-Ibrahim, Algeria’s former Foreign Minister said the late leader, “enjoyed a unique leadership”.
Furthermore, Jassem Al-Khirafi, the Kuwaiti parliament Speaker expressed he was a “staunch supporter of Arab causes and rights. All of his stances were characterized with courage and farsightedness”.
Ginadi Zyoganov, President of the Russian Communist Party also added his wishes and said the late Syrian leader was, “an international figure, freedom fighter, who consecrated all his life in defense of Syria and the Arab nation interests”.
"The late President enjoyed farsightedness and historic sense; he defended the Arab nation rights," Miguel Moratinos, the EU envoy to the Middle East conveyed. (albawaba.com)
