Syrian forces killed 21 rebels as they recaptured territory north of Aleppo, according to Reuters.

Syria's state news agency reported that the pro-government forces seized the al-Malah farm area, as well as parts of the Handarat countryside.

Meanwhile, the rebel and al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front forces seized at least three government checkpoints near military bases in the Idlib Province, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the Local Coordination Committees. At least 15 pro-government, and eight opposition fighters died in the battles.

These advancements come amidst intense battles in Aleppo and the surrounding areas. The city has faced ongoing fighting between the government and opposition forces since 2012.

The UN is currently negotiating a ceasefire in Aleppo in order to deliver much-needed humanitarian aid.
