Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority, has announced its partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) for creating job opportunities for UAE Nationals. Following the partnership, Tanmia will actively promote UNOPS’ Junior Professional Officer (JPO) programme, an initiative that will enable UAE Nationals to acquire UN experience through UNOPS activities both centrally and regionally.

Initially 10 JPOs will be accommodated by offering four posts at the UNOPS corporate headquarters in Copenhagen, Denmark and six in the Dubai office of UNOPS. The Dubai-based positions include Protocol Officer, Programme Development Officer, Finance Reporting Officer, Project Support Officer and Rapid Response Officer, while the posts at the headquarters will be finalised in the coming days.

UNOPS will provide the identified JPOs with fixed-term contracts as per the programme modality and extend them all the benefits and immunities available as per host government agreements. The selected Nationals will receive on-the-job training in the relevant departments and learn UN and UNOPS specific procedures and practices. Further, the Dubai based staff will also engage in activities, identified in collaboration with Tanmia, in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and programming.

Commenting on the partnership, Eng. Ahmad Al-Ahmadi, Manager, Tanmia Office Dubai, said, “We are pleased to partner with UNOPS to provide few UAE Nationals a new experience. This partnership can be extended to establish projects where Tanmia and UNOPS share a common goal, especially in areas such as environment protection and CSR as a whole. We thank UNOPS for their contribution and support to UAE’s emiratisation efforts and we look forward to teaming up with them for similar initiatives in the future.”

Ivano Iannelli, Chief of Programme Development Unit, UNOPS, said, “We are glad to be able to contribute in a small way to the visionary growth of the UAE via this extremely relevant initiative. We will provide the UAE Nationals a work environment that is conducive to the growth of their humanitarian competencies, and we are certain that they will thoroughly enjoy their experience with us.”

UNOPS is keen on utilising Tanmia’s commitment to CSR to launch a campaign aimed at transforming the business culture in the UAE. The campaign would identify a number of processes and activities that could be integrated into the business environment to contribute to the required cultural change.

Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development & Employment Authority in the UAE, was established by a Presidential decree in November 1999, to address the imbalance in the labour market, due to excessive dependence on expatriate workforce. Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role, between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors, to facilitate increased entry of nationals in the labour market. The responsibilities that rest with the Authority are: to set up the overall policy of the Authority and supervise its implementation, conduct sustained operational and administrative labour market studies and analysis, provide career counselling and guidance to the national work force, follow-up and evaluate employment of nationals in public and private sectors, support small investment enterprises through the establishment of self-employment projects for national human resources and develop programmes for training and qualifying nationals seeking employment, in conformity with the labour market needs.
