Tanmia honours 17 public and private organisations during Employers Annual Forum 2009

Forum discusses new 'TAHFEEZ' initiative and other innovations in UAE's emiratisation program

Tanmia, the National Human Resource Development and Employment Authority, today (January 19, 2009) outlined its plans and strategies for 2009 and honoured public and private sector organisations that have been highly supportive of the UAE's emiratisation program, during the Employers Annual Forum 2009 that was held at the Al Bustan Rotana Hotel, Dubai. Tanmia also provided a detailed presentation of its 'TAHFEEZ' initiative, which will serve as the focal point of all its activities in 2009.

During the event, a total of 17 companies from four key categories received special awards for their exemplary performance in implementing their respective emiratisation strategies in 2008. The honourees were selected based on a set of criteria, which include the percentage of UAE nationals employed by the company in the previous year.

H.E. Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, Chairman of Tanmia’s Board of Trustees said: "Tanmia has achieved remarkable progress in our emiratisation program through the support of our partner companies from various sectors. The Employers Annual Forum serves as a venue for us to honour the contributions of these partner organisations and also provide them an overview of our new plans and strategies that aim to help them reap more benefits from the UAE's emiratisation program. For 2009, we have made positive changes that we believe will help us further enhance the UAE labour market and encourage employers to hire more UAE nationals."

The honourees in the Trade and Retail sector this year are Al Rostamani, Al Tayer Group, Spinneys Dubai, Al Shayee Group and Damas; while receiving the award in the Training sector are Direct English, American University of Sharjah, National Institute for Vocational Education, Emirates Institute for Banking and Financial Studies and The Emirates Academy of Hospitality.

The Public sector awardees are Department of Tourism Marketing and Promotion – Dubai, EIDA and Ajman Municipality. In addition Tanmia presented awards to Ministry of Foreign Affairs and United Nations Office for Project Services, which is a strategic partner in employing nationals in international organisations. Receiving the award in the Banking sector are Lloyds TSB Bank and Sharjah Islamic Bank.

Held under the patronage of H.E. Ahmad Humaid Al Tayer, the Employers Annual Forum 2009 gathered companies that have continued to support the UAE's emiratisation program by providing various employment and career enhancement opportunities to UAE nationals. The event included presentations of Tanmia’s plan for 2009 and discussed the important role of business leaders in implementing Tanmia's various initiatives.

Tanmia has been the driving force behind the creation of a strong national workforce. Established by a Presidential Decree in November 1999 to help spur the participation of UAE nationals in the labour market, Tanmia is engaged in a coordinating role between national job seekers and employers in the private and government sectors.
