Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has granted honorary citizenship to Turkish Prime Minister Recep Teyyeb Erdogan in a symbolic gesture to highlight the premier’s "heroic move" in Davos, Switzerland. Erdogan left a panel discussion in Davos last Thursday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in rage to protest the ramarks of the Israeli president Shimon Peres who was defending the war in Gaza Strip.
In a letter to Erdogan, Qalibaf voiced his deep appreciation for the Turkish leader for his move and described it as a brave and rational reaction.
According to IRNA, Qalibaf said he was honored to have Erdogan as the honorary citizen of Iran’s capital city, Tehran.
