Turkey is likely to lower the price of its water that is sold to Israel, reported Haaretz newspaper, quoting a senior official.
The Turks have realized that Israel cannot possibly accept their last quote, 23 cents per cubic meter, and are expected to offer a more realistic price that can compete with that of desalination, probably around 8-12 cents per cubic meter, said the official.
"Should this price range be adopted, the total cost of imported water will reach 70-80 cents per cubic meter," the official said, clearing out that this cost includes transporting the water in 250,000-ton tankers, unloading it in Israel and getting it to the end users.
According to Israel's water utility, Mekorot, if the next winter is also dry, there will be no choice but to import 45 million cubic meters of water from Turkey, said Haaretz - Albawaba.com
