UAE Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum on Tuesday met with a British envoy in Abu Dhabi to discuss bilateral issues and the latest developments in the region in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the US.

The official UAE news agency, WAM, reported that Sheikh Mohammed, who is also Dubai's crown prince, held talks with UK envoy Patrick Nixon on the latest regional and global developments.

Bilateral ties and ways of enhancing them were also discussed during the meeting, WAM said.

The agency said that the minister also met Ray Irani, CEO of US Occidental Oil Co., to review the company's oil and investment projects in the UAE, the Gulf and Middle East.

Irani, said the agency, expressed the hope that his company's business and investment would flourish in the region through the opening of its strategic regional operations center in Dubai, which he described as a turning point in Occidental's production and investment operations.

Sheikh Mohammed was quoted by WAM as saying that “the major international firms and entrepreneurs are always welcome in Dubai” – Albawaba.com
