The UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade’s Department of Trade Negotiations and World Trade Organisation has published the second edition of its “Trade Affairs” newsletter. The periodical tackles the latest developments related to the World Trade Organisation and features updates on trade agreements made with countries and economic blocs. It also covers current news at the international commercial level.

“Trade Affairs” aims to provide information vital to the commercial and economic communities; examine issues related to the multi-faceted international trade system overseen by the World Trade Organisation; and discuss free-trade agreements currently being negotiated among GCC countries and by countries and communities all over the world.

The second issue includes several key topics such as the second report of the General Secretary of the World Trade Organisation on the international financial crisis and its effects on trade policies; the mechanisms available to the World Trade Organisation to protect local industries from practices that negatively affect fair competition; the progress of the Doha negotiations for sustainability; the World Trade Organisation’s expectations on the latest international trade developments amidst the credit crunch; and the US President’s trade policy agenda.

The publication also includes summaries and reports on free trade agreements that GCC countries have signed with Singapore and EFTA Group countries comprised of Switzerland, Iceland, Norway and Lichtenstein; the project modernising the report of reviewing the trade policies of the country; the European system for checking and evaluating chemical hazards; information about trade with fellow GCC countries and the competitive features of the UAE at the international level.

“Trade Affairs” is distributed to all governmental and private organisations. A soft copy is available at the Ministry website.
