An official Romanian delegation arrived in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday for talks with industry and trade officials on enhancing trade ties, reported the English daily Gulf News Tuesday, quoting a senior Romanian official as saying.

He told the daily that Romania has yet to develop strong trade relations with the UAE and GCC.

Trade between Romania and the UAE was valued at $60 million in 1999, much of which comprised exports from Romania, said the daily.

"There is a lot more potential to increase trade with the UAE, which is a re-export hub in the region," the official was quoted as saying.

He said that Romania is also considering further cooperation with the UAE in sectors of banking and finance, investments and privatization, adding that "with only two Romanian companies operating in the UAE, possibilities for joint ventures will be explored." - Albawaba.com
