Paris - According to Associated Press, U.S. officials are pulling out of The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization [UNESCO]. Washington regards the U.N. cultural agency as anti-Israel. Equally, U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley has repeatedly issued denunciations of UNESCO in the past.

After UNESCO voted to include Palestine as a member in 2011, the U.S. withdrew funding but remained a part of the agency, including maintaining an office at UNESCO in Paris and weighing in on policy matters, as all UNESCO states do.

The decision to leave UNESCO comes on condition of anonymity and has not been confirmed by the White House at the time of publication. It also comes as UNESCO is voting on the election of a new director.
