A US military official on Friday said "all indications" show that the downed aircraft in Turkey was a Russian drone, AFP reported.

Turkish fighter jets had shot down an "unidentified aircraft" that violated Turkish air space Friday. If confirmed, the violation in the US' NATO ally would worsen tensions surrounding Russia's involvement in Syria.

Russia denied losing any aircraft in the incident and said it would continue sending drones to Syria without interruption.

"All indications are, yes, it is a Russian drone," a US official told AFP in Washington, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The Turkish military said earlier on Friday it had repeatedly warned the aircraft before it was "downed by fire from our aircraft on patrol, according to the rules of engagement."
