The United States government on Tuesday ordered family members of government workers in some areas of Turkey to leave due to heightened security threats, according to a statement from the US State Department.

"The US Department of State warns US citizens of increased threats from terrorist groups throughout Turkey and to avoid travel to southeastern Turkey," the statement said.

Family members of employees at the US consulate in Adana and family members of US government civilians in Izmir and Mugla provinces have been ordered to leave.
