President George W. Bush will establish follow-up teams to be led by the U.S. that will report on the implementation of the road map peace plan by Israel and the Palestinians, two American envoys to the Middle East told Israel's Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom during a Friday afternoon meeting, Israeli media reports said.
Assistant Secretary of State William Burns and White House National Security Council Middle East director Elliot Abrams Elliot Abrams met with Shalom on Friday as part of bilateral preparations for next week's summit in the Jordanian port city of Aqaba, said a U.S. embassy spokesman in Tel Aviv.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces killed early Saturday a Hamas member near the West Bank city of Jenin. Elsewhere, an Israeli was lightly wounded by shots fired at his vehicle, near the Jordan Valley village of Bardaleh, late Friday night. The shots were fired on the vehicle as well as on a nearby Israeli military outpost.
