Utah Overcome Seattle 96-93

Karl Malone scored 27 points and every Jazz starter reached double figures as  

Utah Jazz defeated the Seattle Supersonics 96-93 Friday and won the first-round NBA playoff series 3-2 at Salt Lake City. 

John Stockton, who had 17 points and 15 assists, hit two free throws with nine seconds remaining to preserve the victory. Seattle had pulled within 94-93 when Gary Payton flipped in a runner in the lane with 25 seconds to play. 

The victory sends Utah to a rematch with Portland in the Western Conference semifinals. 

 

KINGS STREAMROLLED 86-113 BY LAKERS 

 

The Sacramento Kings, who haven't won a playoff series since 1981,didn't stand a chance against the Los Angeles Lakers as they were steamrolled 86-113 in the deciding game of the best-of-five series Friday in Los Angeles.  

Shaquille O'Neal finished with 32 points and 18 rebounds in the first half, while the rest of the team contributed steady offensive production and superb defense. 

The consistent performance remained when the teams' two best players, O'Neal and Kobe Bryant, who finished with 17 points, sat out for almost the entire fourth quarter giving them extra rest to perform in their second-round series against the Phoenix Suns beginning Sunday - (Agencies)
