The Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar presents it’s Seventh Annual Fashion Show; Mazaj. The event, hosted under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani, will begin at 7 pm, Thursday, May 11 in the VCUQ Atrium at Education City. The event is open to the public.
At a special VIP viewing of the fashions VCUQ also honored those who have made significant contributions to VCUQ’s Department of Fashion Design and Merchandising and become an integral part of the Annual Fashion Showcase. These members of the community are always willing to offer their services and lend a helping hand. Mr Abdullah Hashim, Mr. Nasser Al Kalla and Mr. Abdul Rauf were recognized for the contributions to the Fashion Department.
Mr. Abdulla Abdullrazaq Hashim is the owner and Manager of the Tash showroom and its branches for haute couture textiles. Mr. Hashim’s entry into the world of women’s textiles in 1990, allowed him to utilize his artistry as well as his talents in drawing and calligraphy. The word Tash, an ancient Arabic name, means ornamented fabric. Tash is renowned in Qatar for high quality women’s textiles that keep pace with world fashion trends. He takes exceptional care in personally selecting textiles during his seasonal trips to Paris and Rome. Tash provides textiles for famous fashion houses and designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Dior, Christian Lacroix, Chanel, Escada, Elie Saab, Zuhair Murad and George Hobeika. Mr. Hashim is one of the pioneer supporters of Fashion Design at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar and its students.
Mr. Nasser Al-Kalla is an invaluable supporter of VCUQ. Currently he serves as executive manager of Fauchon-Paris, one of Doha’s renowned eating establishments which offers elegant dining with the finest of French cakes, pastries, chocolates, coffee, tea and confectioneries. As Manager, Mr. Al-Kalla is responsible for everything from weddings and ceremonies to marketing and preparing menus. Fauchon-Paris will participate in the Asian Games being held in Doha in 2006.
Mr. Abdul Rauf a Sales and Marketing Manager for perfumes and cosmetics, received a bachelor’s degree in economics and commerce from Osmania University in Hyderabad, India. He has attended seminars conducted by Chanel, Givenchy, Elizabeth Arden and L’Oreal. In 2000, he coordinated the Givenchy Haute Couture Fashion Show during the launch of a new perfume at the Diplomatic Club. Mr. Rauf has been an invaluable supporter and sponsor of fashion design at VCUQ. As a guest lecturer, he has shared his knowledge with the students on everything from perfume and cosmetics to sales and marketing.
Mazaj is a collaborative effort Communication Design, Interior Design and the Fashion Design Departments at VCUQ.
