This summer, get ready to be soaked in some artistic Syrian creativity as Vindemia art, antiques and collectibles gallery will once again showcase paintings of another budding Syrian artist, Altayeb Amer at the Aspen Art Café in Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates. The exhibition titled, 'Dreams Deferred' will run from 25 August- October 3, 2010 from 11.00 am- 9.00 pm
Altayeb Amer's large canvases demonstrate the evolution of abstract expressionism in an oriental Sufi style that exists amidst a perpetual state of evolution. Inspired by dreams and life around him, including the physical and psychic aspects of society and culture, his paintings utilize experiments in palette, texture, and medium to draw in the viewer and to trigger the senses. Communicating movement and energy through explosions of color, the meticulous division of space and the layering of surface, his compositions are marked by a profound expressionism and spontaneity that alludes to the internal and the sublime.
Commenting on his series of paintings, "My paintings reflect how inseparable is life and dreams. Both are twins of the soul. Dreams are the hope, the incentive – whether defaulted or delayed they remain, never leave, reinforcing the essence of resistance, igniting the torch of love for life and perseverance – while life illuminates the path of hope in the tireless search for your dream, continuing to venture and to make our adventure. These are my dreams deferred, but for a while."
Born in Syria in 1971, Altayeb Amer is a rising young artist whose recent explorations into abstraction have set him apart within the contemporary Syrian art scene. With a Masters degree in Fine Arts from Damascus University, his earlier works have been exhibited in Tunisian and Syria. Around 35 pieces of work are included in the artist's latest series of paintings that reflects the striking duality of his work which highlights the fact that Amer belongs to a contemporary movement of Arab paintings that is characterized by its great experimentation and range.
"We are pleased to once again host another inspiring art collection from Vindemia, featuring the works of the talented Syrian artist Altayeb Amer," said Holger Schroth, General Manager, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates. "The contemporary tone of the pieces and the refreshing theme are sure to be appreciated by guests who visit Aspen Art Café as they fit in well with the relaxed yet stimulating vibe of the venue."
"Altayeb Amer is an emerging artist who as much an individual as he is a continuation of global art trends, capturing the underlining dichotomy of Arab society while striving to reach new frontiers in aesthetic representation. With highly stylized characters that emanate with a particular carefree innocence, his abstract paintings influenced by Oriental Sufi expression are at once reflective of his fascination with one's dreams as they are investigations into the human life and spirit," says Ghada Kunash, Art collector and Managing Director of Vindemia
