Dubai Customs World has secured the World Customs Organization’s approval in principle to host the prestigious WCO IT Conference & Fair 2009, dedicated to showcasing advanced electronic systems, technologies and solutions used in customs operations.
Dubai as a venue for this international event was brought to WCO’s attention by a delegation of high level DC World officials during a visit to Mexico to participate in the 2007 edition of the conference.
The Mexico event also provided a timely opportunity for DC World to present its “Mirsal World” customs e-clearance system to the international customs community. The sytem was entirely conceived and developed by the Dubai-based customs solutions provider.
Ahmad Khalaf Al Merri, Director, DC World, who led the delegation, said:
“This international event was a good opportunity for achieving many goals. The most important of them was meeting the Secretary General of the WCO, Mr. Michel Danet, to present our bid for hosting the 2009 version of the event. We highlighted the strengths of Dubai as a competent venue to host the event, such as the advanced infrastructure and the city’s successful track record in hosting international events of this caliber. The response was very encouraging. Mr. Danet gave his initial assent and promised to discuss the issue with the members of the WCO.
“Our other crucial goal in Mexico was to promote the Mirsal World system among representatives of customs administrators and managers from countries around the world. This is entirely in line with the strategic goal of DC World to reach out to the rest of the world. We found keen interest among the participants in Mirsal World’s capability to deliver the e-clearance system for customs administration.”
Farida Mohammed, Manager, Communications & Administration, DC World, and a member of the delegation said:
“Our participation in the WCO IT Conference & Fair provided an excellent opportunity to see the most modern technologies and their application in customs-related operations. Participation in such events and hosting them here in Dubai are integral to our continuous improvement program.
