The consumption of wine in Israel has been on a steady rise for years and the local consumer now drinks wine - both local and imported - more often and on more occasions than in the past, Haaretz reported Tuesday.
Wine sales in Israel are estimated at NIS 600 million ($147.5m) a year. Carmel Mizrachi is the leading company in this market, with estimated revenues of NIS 300 million in 2000.
Some NIS 20 million of this comes from exports, the daily said.
The mass-produced wine market - which includes chain stores, supermarkets and private stores with cash registers for recognizing bar codes - accounts for 55 percent of overall wine sales in Israel, according to the paper – (Albawaba.com)
