the Shiite rebels have violated a decision by the Yemeni government to suspend military operations in Saada province and some parts of Amran province, north of Yemen, an official source in the Supreme Security Committee said on Saturday. The Yemeni government announced on Friday the suspension of military operations against the al-Houthi rebels.
"Despite the Government's commitment of its decision to suspend the military operations for delivering all food supplies and humanitarian assistances to displaced people in Saada, but the terrorist elements of subversion and rebellion violated their commitments to apply the decision, attacking al-Malahydh area of Saada and others in Harf Sufyan of Amran province", an official source told Saba.
The suspension started at 9 pm Friday.
According to the state-run Saba news agency, security officials said the move came following calls by relief organizations to allow in aid for the war-affected people. The report said the the Shiite rebels also announced they will eliminate landmines, barriers and end sniper attacks.
Earlier, the Yemeni government said three rebel leaders died Thursday in an attack carried out by the military against Houthi rebels in Malahidh in Sa'adah. Rebels leaders Jar-Allah Ismael, Ali Abdu Rabu Jabal and Abdul-Aziz al-Arimi were killed in the attack, a military source told Saba. In
