Bilateral relations and further military cooperation were the topics of discussion by Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Russian defense minister Igor Sergeyev at a meeting in Sanaa Sunday, reported AFP Sunday.
The agency added that the Yemeni president received a letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin, which dealt with enhancing bilateral relations.
Sergeyev headed a Russian delegation that traveled to Sanaa to celebrate the country's 10th anniversary of the unification of North and South Yemen.
During the visit, Saleh and Sergeyev discussed further military cooperation, the agency said.
Some 1,200 guests, including representatives from 47 countries watched a colorful parade that showed Russian-built MiG-29 and Sukhoi-27 planes, Scud missiles and T-72 tanks
Meanwhile, Yemeni Prime Minister Abdelkarim Iryani called Sunday for a fresh start in Arab relations, AP reported Monday.
The call came as Yemen celebrated the 10th anniversary of its unification with a military parade, jet fighters flying overhead and calls for leaving old Arab differences in the past, AP added.
"We call for solidarity and want to bypass disputes and start with a clean slate and look toward a new future," Al Iryani was quoted as saying before celebrations began in San'a's Sabeen square - (Several Sources)
