ALBAWABA - An Iranian student at the Islamic Azad University stripped to underwear and was captured on video after she was abused for wearing hijab 'improperly'.
The student was harassed by the university's morality police over her "improper" hijab, in protest she took off her clothes and remained in underwear to protest Iran's strict dress code imposed on women in the country.
According to Iran International and other local media, the incident occurred on Saturday and the female student was arrested.
Following the incident, Islamic Azad University spokesperson Amir Mahjob allegedly said on X that the woman was found to be "under severe mental pressure" and claimed she has "a mental disorder."
Despite the announcement by the university's spokesperson, many pro-women activists denied the claim and said the woman was not suffering any "mental issues".
Iranian-American journalist and activist Masih Alinejad said: "Her act is a powerful reminder of Iranian women’s fight for freedom. Yes, we use our bodies like weapons to fight back a regime that kills women for showing their hair."
Many activists endorsed her move, but still wished she would be "safe" following her move. An X user said: "Honor her. This is courage. This is standing up to the man. This is defiance in the face of annihilation."
Another commented: "So brave. I just hope she survives arrest." Meanwhile, a person said: "Sadly, she'll likely never be seen again."
