ALBAWABA -  The Simpsons has become famous over the years for its correct predictions, such as the September 9/11 attacks and Trump’s presidency. But one prediction that circulates every four years has yet to come true.

In a 1997 episode of The Simpsons dubbed ‘The Cartridge Family’, a television show displayed a football match between Mexico and Portugal in Springfield, the town where the show takes place; this scene is said to be a prediction of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

This prediction, however, is not new; having been going viral online in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, with 2026 being the latest, and will no doubt continue to circulate through the 2030 and 2034 World Cups until we have a Mexico vs. Portugal final, wherein the prediction becomes reality.

While Portugal, with their star Cristiano Ronaldo, might have it in them to reach the World Cup final, Mexico, on the other hand, will have a much harder time; in fact, it would be absolutely ground-breaking for them to reach the World Cup, the morale boost from the tournament being partly held in their country notwithstanding.

Still, a Simpsons prediction cannot be taken lightly. Will this be the World Cup where the prediction becomes reality, or will we have to wait for four or eight years, or indeed, however long it will take for Mexico to face Portugal in a World Cup final?
