Covering California 'Mega Fires' Stands Him For Coveted Journalism Award

Published September 17th, 2021 - 07:04 GMT

Josh Edelson is an independent photographer based in San Francisco, California. He has been working with AFP since 2012.

"I'm a curious adventure-seeker, passionate about creating visually compelling stories and portraits, and absolutely love to travel. My photojournalism experience has taken me to incredible places and plays a heavy role in my ability to make mundane scenes interesting in the corporate and event space."

His coverage for AFP of the “mega-fires” in northern California makes him one of three photographers preselected for the “Covering Climate Now Journalism Awards”.

“10 years covering wildfires in California, I've never seen anything like what this year brought. The new normal now seems to be that every fire season brings a new surprise”, he tells AFP.

These prizes are awarded in the name of the “Covering Climate Now” coalition of more than 450 media worldwide, including AFP. Names of the winners will be announced in early October.
