The father of Roma striker Romelu Lukaku admits he wanted his son to join Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal in the summer.

However, the Belgian international went on to join AS Roma on loan from Chelsea.

The 30-year-old is having an impressive season at the Italian capital, having scored nine goals in 14 appearances across all competitions.

“He made the right choice by going to Roma, but I would've chosen Saudi Arabia, he should've gone to Al-Hilal," Roger Lukaku told DH as quoted by Tribal Football.

“How much would he have earned there, €45m per year? He would've had to talk to (Belgium coach) Tedesco to see if he could keep his place in the squad, but Cristiano Ronaldo does it.

“Romelu has two children, he is already 30 years old, at a certain point he has to think about himself. But he wanted to remain in Europe."

Lukaku appeared to be heading back to Inter but decided eventually to wear the Roma jersey in a move that upset his former team's management and fans.
