Manchester United has sacked Erik ten Hag on Monday following their worst start to a Premier League season.

The Dutch boss was handed a contract extension at Old Trafford four months ago, however, his time at the club has come to an end.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was Ten Hag’s assistant, is set take interim charge of the team with immediate effect.

The English giants issued a statement confirming the sack, it said: “We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future.

“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”

It remains to be seen who will become Manchester United's next boss, with the likes of Xavi Hernandez and Ruben Amorim being considered for the role.
