Amman: US$300 million contract awarded for construction of Abdali Boulevard

The Abdali Boulevard Company, a subsidiary of Abdali Investment and development Psc, announced the awarding of the $300 million construction contract for the ‘Boulevard’ to Saudi Oger Construction Company. The project works commenced on August 4th, 2007 and are set for completion by February 2010. The Boulevard project’s construction, located in the heart of the Abdali new downtown, will comprise of a total built up area of 224,000 sqm divided into 118,000 sqm  (above ground), and 106,000 sqm of parking and service basement levels (4 levels).

 

Set to become a major regional shopping and visiting destination, the ‘Boulevard’ will consist of a 370 meter long and 21 meter wide pedestrian strip outlined by 12 buildings, averaging 9 floors (above ground) each, and will host over 130 retail shops, 400 luxurious five-star serviced apartments, 27,000 sqm of state-of-the-art office space; and for the first time in Jordan the rooftop experience will be introduced, hosting restaurants, fitness clubs, terraces, and pools overlooking the scenes of the city.

 

Jamal Itani, CEO of Abdali Boulevard Company stated: “Amongst the 25% of the project Abdali Psc retains, we prevailed developing the Boulevard, in order to set the construction standards for other developers within the new downtown…” and to add: “…what we are witnessing today is the rise of a new era in Amman, one that will breathe life and soul into the downtown scene with newfound culture, high-end retail and refined hospitality; acting as a vibrant center in the heart of the capital”.

 

Once completed, the crown jewel of the upcoming Abdali downtown will stand as a living witness to how much has changed in Jordan’s resurgent capital.  For the first time in the country, there will be an outdoor shopping experience in harmony with the unique character of Amman. The Boulevard will be a world class destination to serve the growing city’s needs.

 

The construction’s progress of the new downtown is witnessed in 23 parcels of the Abdali Downtown that have commenced actual works. By end of year, over 80% will have started excavations and 50% would have started their concrete works. With such progress, the Abdali project is on the right track to meet completion in 2010.
